For each of the past eight years, we have sponsored a trip to the Penn State University for the annual Blue-White Game (Penn State’s intrasquad scrimmage.) This year we will again take approximately 35-40 boys, ages 11 through 17, on the trip for an exciting weekend of discovery, sharing, and lots of fun.
Many of the young men that go have very limited exposure to institutions of higher education. It is our belief that unless our young people see higher education as possible, it is not something they will actively pursue.
Our results have been encouraging. There have been a number of participants from prior trips who have benefited from the exposure and now attend a variety of colleges and universities.
The Agenda
The trip commences on Friday evening with an overnight stay in State College. During our stay at the hotel, we facilitate discussions on issues important to the boys and conduct team-building exercises. The night ends with a pizza party.
On Saturday morning, we begin our day with a fund-raising breakfast, and then take a guided tour of the Penn State Football Athletic and Academic facilities. Afterwards, we go over to Beaver Stadium for an autograph session with the current Nittany Lion football team.
After the game, we enjoy a nice dinner and return to New Jersey.
Support the Program
The costs of the trip (hotel, charter bus, etc.) are covered by grants and private donations from people like you. Your contribution will provide an opportunity for additional boys to attend and enjoy this rewarding experience. Any contribution you make is fully tax-deductible.
You may sponsor a child for just $75. To sponsor one of the young men, please send a check, payable to "Community Refuge Education Center" to:
